EUROPE THROUGH THE EYES OF RUSSIANS.
RUSSIA THROUGH THE EYES OF EUROPEANS

Concerts, workshops and meeting with composers
March 2011 – March 2012
Nine concerts of contemporary music – nine European countries:
Austria, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Romania, Poland, Latvia, Italy, France, Hungary

18 world premieres in the project!

Two new works in each concert:
work of European composer dedicated to Russia
work of Russian composer dedicated to one of the European countries

EUROPE THROUGH THE EYES OF RUSSIANS. RUSSIA THROUGH THE EYES OF EUROPEANS project is financed by IBPP- Support to EU-Russia Cultural Cooperation Intiatives. Current project is one of eight chosen during 2010 grant competition. Project goal is to promote, foster and maintain contemporary music in Russia as well as to broaden and deepen mutual understanding between the musical cultures of Russia and nine countries of the European Union chosen for the project. For each of nine programs, there will be two new compositions commissioned by two composers -one from the guest -European country, and the other, from Russia- the host country. In line with the concept on which this entire project is based, the European composer’s piece will be connected to a Russian theme – Russian culture, history, language, art, etc., whereas the composition by the Russian composer will necessarily be connected with a theme or themes from the corresponding European country. Alongside with two specially commissioned compositions the concerts will simultaneously present the Russian public with a broad range of European and Russian “classical” 20th century contemporary music. At the end of project all the new 18 compositions will be repeated in Nizhny Novgorod and Yaroslavl.
