The coming season will be marked by the 25th anniversary of the Studio for New Music Ensemble, the leading contemporary music group in Russia.
Over the quarter century the Studio has succeeded in making the norm, what was once hard to imagine: contemporary works by best composers are being performed by at the legendary conservatory halls; over 1500 national premieres of paradigmatic masterpieces of the XXth century as well as the newest commissions has helped to erase the negative aftermath of the iron curtain and to make Russia part of world music culture.
The group performances at internationally acclaimed contemporary music venues like the Venice Biennale, the Darmstadt Summer Courses, the Konzerthaus of Berlin and Vienna, the Cité de la Musique of Paris., its collaborations with Ensemble Modern and Klangforum Wien among others, its masterclasses given at the Universities of Oxford, Harward and Boston, - all this has made the Studio for New Music an acknowledged engine for development of contemporary music in Russia
