Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music
In the summer of 2010 the Studio for New Music ensemble was invited to the International Summer Courses of Contemporary Music in Darmstadt – the oldest and most prestigious forum for new music. The Studio for New Music spent two weeks in Darmstadt, having become the first Russian ensemble-in-residence at the festival. The ensemble took part in the work of the international electronic music studio, carried out reading sessions of works by young composers from various countries and presented two concert programs: one of works by contemporary German composers, and the other of works by Russian composers. Most of the performed compositions incorporated elements of computer music and live-electronics (for example, recording and transformation of sounds in real time). The ensemble was conducted by Vladimir Gorlinsky.
The ensemble also illustrated the lectures of Vladimir Tarnopolski, who became the first Russian composer to be invited to teach in Darmstadt.
